Whew.. made it

I was begining to wonder if we were going to make it through this last week. Not only did both of my boys compete in the science fair, we had family night and my son's 8th grade graduation this week with our homeschool co-op. I couldn't see the top of my dining room table for three days. Also on Friday morning, I shot my first portraits/headshots. In the middle of all of that my semester started with college and I am struggling with this class. I finally finished 3 out of the 4 assignments last night at 11:00. Vacation is looking better and better. I am counting down the days!!!!

Whirlwind continued

My oldest plays basketball for our local homeschool league. This year they didn't have enough players for JV and varsity so he played on both teams. Since it is a homeschool team we have to travel all over the area playing not only other homeschoolers but also Christian schools. This year for the end of the season we had a tournament out of state. It wasn't too bad of a drive, just a three hour trip one way. It was a double elimination so we knew we would have to stay over night. Anyway, one of the mothers on the girl's team took initiative to call the hotels to get us a discount, an oversight on my part. Next year I will definitely take that responsibility! Because we are a sports team, one of the local hotels gave us a good discount. I never knew I was such a hotel snob but I have to say after where we stayed I will no longer stay at a place like that again if I can help it. I will pay a little extra to stay at a well known chain.

It was an experience from the moment we stepped into the lobby and were greeted by the two "gentlemen" at the front counter, to when we drove around to our room and caught glimpse of the permanent occupants. We opened the front door of our room and were greeted with stained carpet, cracked ceilings, and a bathroom door that didn't shut completely, not to mention the front door you could see light through. To say it was a long and somewhat stressful night is putting it lightly. However we survived and can chalk it up to interesting memories!!!

Whirlwind week

Last week and the first of this one was such a whirlwind it took forever to unwind from it. It helped that I told my kids I refuse to go anywhere for a while and I feel I can catch up. My classes are over for two weeks so I have been trying to focus on some of my other obsessions  interests like photography, setting up my blog, planning my garden and catching up on my fun reading. The first thing I did was read my new Ted Dekker book Burn. I have had it since the begining of February but hadn't been able to sit down and read for fun! So to recap last week I thought I would just share some of the fun highlight.

Last week started out with a Mom's retreat where me and three of my good friends headed off to a beautiful resort to just relax and get away. We ended up staying up late, laughing, sharing, hiking, soaking in the hot tub and eating way too much. O, and they also made me sit through a chick flick which is not my favorite genre in the least. Here are a few pictures of us acting silly (thankfully I am taking the pictures and are not in them)....

Another one of where we planted ourselves when we were not in the hot tub...

One of the days we took a two mile hike, which was fun but the weather was cold and dreary!

All in all we had a great time... We even got to listen to live music by a homeschool dad who really knew how to play a guitar. We left that place changing how people think of homeschool moms!! It was fun while it lasted but we were all ready to be home with our families.

The end of the week saw me heading out of state with my two boys for a basketball tournament. But that in itself is another story for another day.....

New blog

First off I want to say thank you to anyone who has followed me from my xanga blog. I started blogging over there just because I had to open an account in order to subscribe to a blog that I have followed for a long time. It just seemed natural to start my own blog even though it was sporadic at best. However, since I started the 365 project/Mommytography I began to post more regularly. This led to another online class which I learned the basics on blog design from Amy at SplitDescisionz. After that class is became apparent that I needed a "grown up" blog. So here we are... Welcome everyone!!
