I have been trying for a long time now to get a shot of the moon that I was fairly happy with. Many nights found me out with my tripod bundled up against the cold wearing my husband’s boots, freezing to death just to get the shot. Since we live in the woods, I have had a hard time getting my camera to focus on where I wanted it to in the middle of the night. I had just about given up on it until last night.
It wasn’t quite dark yet when I noticed the moon was not only full but a bright orange. I hollered at my youngest son to see if he wanted to go with me to “shoot” the moon. He got off the trampoline and hopped on the 4-wheeler. We went down the drive, out to the neighbor’s open field. While Jeremiah was catching fire flies, I was capturing the moon!
Even though they aren’t perfect, I am pretty happy with my attempt. These are straight out of the camera; except for the lower right hand one. I spent about 30 minutes shooting with different settings; changing the aperture, the shutter speed, and even the ISO. I had to see if it made a difference on the auto night setting but all that did was surprise Jeremiah when the flash went off!
Next time I might grab my flash and tripod to see if it makes a difference, but for now this made by day just knowing I actually got more that a white blob in the sky!
Photoshop Collage
Tonight was Mommytography 201 Basic Photoshop! This was my second round of the class and I took it sitting in McDonald's using their WiFi. I also drank a cup of coffee way too late, which is why I am up making collages, putting into use the things I learned. Let me know what you think!

Creativity Boot Camp: Day 3

Creative buzzkill was the topic for the day. Who or what is your biggest buzzkill? I would have to say myself. I am really good at talking myself out of good ideas or feeling that I am not good enough. Ok, now that I have accepted that I need to change.... remember from yesterday, I am an artist. So instead of I can't, I now say I can and I will!
Random Word Prompt: Multilayered
CBC Day Two
6/08/2010
My assignment for today was to start calling myself an artist. Hmmm, that is difficult for me because I don't think of myself as an artist, I just now am starting to feel like a photographer. As I was walking this morning, I started thinking about being an artist and what that means. To many, when you hear the word artist you think of a painter or scultper.... famouse people whose works hang in museums. But really it is more than that, an artist sees beauty all around them and they show that beauty through the works of their hands. Many times I have been out and about, see something and think, Oh, I wish I had my camera! I see beauty through the lens of my camera. I share that beauty through photographs. I may not paint, sculpt or even draw but I capture beauty.... I AM an artist!
